To wrap up the year 2023, there was a John Mayer live performance on December 29th, 30th, and 31st – spanning three days. And guess what? It took place at the renowned Blue Note Tokyo!!!
That’s fantastic! After a fierce ticket battle on November 7th, I managed to secure a spot for the second show on December 30th. The ticket reservation was truly challenging. Even when it appeared sold out, refreshing the page would sometimes bring back available seats. I somehow snagged one just in time.
Regardless, I was able to welcome the live day in perfect condition and experience the Blue Note Tokyo for the first time in my life! Right away, the entrance had the inscription “JOHN MAYER SOLO” – an exciting sight!
Entering the entrance and descending to B1F, there was a reception and waiting area, along with a merchandise booth selling two types of T-shirts, one hoodie, and posters. I managed to purchase a T-shirt! It was a good thing I arrived a bit early.
With a bit of waiting time on my hands, I also visited “Bar BACKYARD.” The atmosphere there was extremely calming, making the wait time quite enjoyable!
And then, as I was leisurely enjoying the time, the announcement for the venue opening came! The live hall was another floor down, so I descended the stairs to B2F. It was a luxurious space unlike anything I had experienced before. Here are a few photos I took before the live began…
Isn’t this proximity incredible? It’s likely that this will be the first and last time I get to see John Mayer at such a close distance. Laughing at the thought! Being able to witness the guitar and effects so up close is truly an indescribable feeling.
The live itself, starting with “Neon” and closing with “Gravity,” had an incredible setlist! Particularly, when my favorite songs “In the Blood” followed by “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” were played consecutively, it was a truly emotional moment! The call-and-response during the live, and the fact that he signed autographs and shook hands with many fans after the show, conveyed not just his musical talent but also his warmth and generosity. Congratulations to those who got autographs and handshakes!
Later on, I saw a scene with John Mayer on CNN’s countdown footage on social media. It was broadcasted from a cat bar in Kabukicho, and the local reporter was laughing heartily! Laughing out loud!
Finally, let me showcase the T-shirt I purchased. It came in two patterns, white and black.
Let’s immerse ourselves in the afterglow by watching past live DVDs!
