I purchased the “Air Sofa” from MUJI, and I’d like to share my review with you right away!
In conclusion, it’s a definite “buy”!
What is the ‘Air Sofa’ ?
For those unfamiliar with the “Air Sofa,” let me provide a brief explanation. MUJI released this sofa in selected stores from December 30, in the 2023. However, it has been available nationwide since January 11, in the 2024. It’s a single-seater sofa made by MUJI, and this information pertains to Japan.
Its main feature lies in being an inflatable sofa, allowing you to easily deflate it when not in use, making it compact for storage. Additionally, its lightweight design makes it convenient to move around within your room.

Unboxing & Assembly
This time, I purchased it online to avoid the inconvenience of carrying a large box, as mentioned in some reviews. The condition of the delivered box is like this, and indeed, it’s quite sizable.
(Package dimensions: Approximately width 80cm × depth 46cm × height 15cm)
And when you open the box, it’s neatly folded like this.
(Folded dimensions: Approximately width 75cm × depth 40cm × thickness 10cm)
The black object on top is the “air pump,” used to inflate the sofa.
And here’s the state before inflating, taken out of the box. The color I purchased this time is gray. Additionally, it is available in yellow and green.
The inflation process involves steps A→B→C-1→C-2→D, gradually adding air in sequence. It’s recommended to start with a small amount of air initially and add more gradually. Overinflating may risk damage, and it can result in an uncomfortable seating experience.
And here’s how it looks after inflating.
(In-use dimensions: Approximately width 95cm × depth 95cm × height 72.5cm)
It may seem a bit relaxed, but this level of inflation is just right for me. When I tried filling it to the maximum, the rebound was too strong, and it felt too firm. Adjusting it to personal preference is one of the great features of an air sofa.
Recommended for
Those living alone or in smaller spaces:
Firstly, it’s great for individuals with limited space. Folding and storing it, for instance in a closet, shouldn’t pose a problem. While the process of inflating and deflating may not be a daily task, it’s manageable for the benefit of saving space.
Those who frequently relocate or are on frequent business trips:
Secondly, it could be beneficial for individuals who experience frequent relocations or business trips. The thought of moving and the logistics involved can often make people hesitant to invest in furniture or a sofa. For individuals in such situations, the convenience of an inflatable sofa that can be easily transported seems like a good fit.
Others
Using it, I noticed something great – the combination with a heated carpet.
It provides a gradual warmth, similar to a car seat heater, making the buttocks and back pleasantly warm, offering an experience that you can’t have with a regular sofa.
Additionally, the seat cover is removable and made of polyester, allowing for easy washing if you’re concerned about stains.
The price of 9,900 yen (including tax) for this quality is also quite affordable.
When you visit Japan, give it a try!”
